A little bit about the music classroom:

In music class students will sing, move, listen, imitate, explore, experience, analyze, classify, create, share, perform, notate, read, improvise, cooperate, and most importantly HAVE FUN!!!! We strive to create innovative, engaging lesson plans which include singing, playing instruments, and moving in each of our lessons. Music is important here at Dolvin Elementary. Studies show that students who receive music perform better on tests involving reading, math, problem solving, and logical thinking.

September News

Please remember that chorus begins this week. We will collect money for chorus shirts this Thursday during chorus rehearsal. I will send an e-mail this week to with a reminder. If you do not receive and e-mail, please reach out as it might mean that your child is not properly signed up.

We will begin playing recorder in 4th and 5th grade. Please send your recorder with your child to school on their assigned music day.

The second grade auditions for Spaced Out will begin this week. Papers went home with a letter and helpful hints to those students who were interested in participating.

The student tech team is off to a great start! Help them remember to check their Edmodo accounts periodically.

And last, the music tech team hopes to be up and running soon! This will look a little differently this year, but should still have a big impact on the school.

As always, reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns.

Thank you!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back everyone!

I know you are excited to begin a wonderful new school year, and so am I! As we kick things off, I wanted to go ahead and make you aware of some important upcoming dates and notes.

First of all, we will begin accepting chorus participants. The Dolvin chorus is open to any 4th and 5th grade student who enjoys singing, dancing, and acting. All sign up information is online. To access this information, please click on the Chorus link above. We will be creating our very own Edmodo group where all chorus information will be housed. Due to security reasons, I will not publish this code online, instead, I will send an email the first day of chorus. Please do not submit any checks for chorus polo shirts until the first and second weeks of chorus rehearsals. I'd like to get them all at the same time to help with the ease of the deposit process. For your convenience, we will strive to keep an updated calendar with events on the chorus page to aid in clear commication. Please consider joining our Remind group. This group will send you text or email notifications for important reminders, such as: audition due dates, concert reminder dates, etc.. Consider signing up today!

All K-2 students participate in a musical performance at Dolvin Elementary School. The dates will be updated this week for the performances so you may mark your calendars accordingly. Our second grade musical is first! We will begin working on the musical the second week of school with auditions for special roles the 3rd and 4th week of school. If you would like a closer look at the musicals, click on the link above that says Musicals.

As always, please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions! I look forward to a wonderful year of music making with you!

Thank you,
Megan Endicott

Final Podcast & have a great summer!

Hi everyone! This is my last post for the 2016-2017 school year. We had a great time learning together in the music room! To end the year, the music tech team thought it would be amazing to share our final podcast with Dolvin favorite, Graham Hepburn, Quaver in Quaver's Marvelous World of Music. The kids had an incredible time. I only wish we could have had a few more minutes! We look forward to more podcasts with next year's music tech team to keep you in the loop for all music room related activities. Until then.... have a happy, and wonderful summer!!!! (Check out the Teacher's special end of the year video for the students below the podcasts at the bottom of this post!)

Feburary Updates

Hi everyone! A few updates from the music department. The first grade musical was held last Thursday and was a huge success. The 1st grade students and teachers made the entire event a magical evening. Next up is Kindergarten! The date has been set for March 23rd at 6:00 pm. Please go ahead and mark your calendars.

If you were not in the loop, I was the lucky person selected to "TakeOver" the Fulton County Schools Instagram page. I posted a series of photos and videos to tell the story of what being an educator looks like from my perspective. If you aren't currently following Fulton County on Instragram or Twitter, now is the time.

Speaking of social media! If you want constant, in the moment updates, please remember to follow me on Twitter (@EndicottSpot) and Instagram (@dolvinmusic).

We will be posting a special podcast this week with music tech team students wrapping up our old music unit on melody and harmony and includes a special interview with Mrs. McMahan from the Dolvin Discovery Lab!

Next week, we have a super HUGE surprise guest! Stay tuned to find out just who it will be!

If you want to know where I have been, I just finished some amazing presentations at the Georgia Music Educators Conference in Athens, GA where I held sessions on App Smashing and Project Based Learning in Music. This week, I am traveling to San Antonio, TX to present on personalized learning in music to the members of TI:ME (Technology Integration in Music Education) at their national conference. Follow my journey on social media!

Until then...
