A little bit about the music classroom:

In music class students will sing, move, listen, imitate, explore, experience, analyze, classify, create, share, perform, notate, read, improvise, cooperate, and most importantly HAVE FUN!!!! We strive to create innovative, engaging lesson plans which include singing, playing instruments, and moving in each of our lessons. Music is important here at Dolvin Elementary. Studies show that students who receive music perform better on tests involving reading, math, problem solving, and logical thinking.

Chorus starts TOMORROW! :)

Hello everyone!

I wanted to send a few quick reminders.  First, I am returning from maternity leave this Monday and will hold our first after school chorus rehearsal.  Pick up is promptly at 3:30 on the Jones Bridge Road entrance.

Also, since we are getting a bit of a late start on rehearsals due to my leave, we have a lot of work to do.  I ask that all chorus members join our Edmodo group.  I have posted lyrics, MP3s, and videos to aid in learning and memorizing the music.  It would be helpful if students come to rehearsal Monday prepared.  Please go to www.edmodo.com to sign-up or join our group.  Please e-mail me for the group code.

We have an exciting event coming up in December, the Sing for Santa event at the Gladiator Game.  This is not a required event; however, it is a great opportunity to sing with other chorus students and spend time with friends and family outside of Dolvin.  Each child will need a parent or chaperon attending in order to participate.  We will meet at the arena.  Meeting times and locations as well as specifics will be coming home soon.  Please RSVP here to ensure we have ample seating for our chorus group.  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dEU1RnAxOTBxRDZXaTZPLXFWQkpKR2c6MA#gid=0 This will be needed by next Wednesday.  Last year we didn't have enough seating due to an inaccurate headcount.  The event will be held on December 15th.  Please see attached flyer for more information.  All students attending will be responsible for memorizing the selected holiday tunes distributed by the Gladiator Coordinator.  Click here to view the flyer.

Please let me know if you have any questions and I will strive to answer them all as quickly as possible.

I look forward to singing with your children this Monday!

4th Grade Sound Project

4th Grade Students and Parents,

The music department is teaming up with the fourth grade science teachers to aid in an inclusive study on sound and vibrations. As a part of the unit, each 4th grade student is required to construct an instrument.  Below you will find the requirements for the project and a helpful link with a series of ideas. Their instrument must be from "previously used" or found objects and must change pitch. Please e-mail me if you have any questions or concerns about this project.

Spring Chorus and the Gladiator's Game

Dolvin Students and Parents,

Chorus permission forms have gone home to 4th and 5th grade students and are due Friday, February 1st.  The spring chorus will be performing "Cinemagic", a tribute to Hollywood for Dolvin Elementary's Fine Arts Night.  Our first rehearsal will be on Monday, February 4th.  Please e-mail me if you have any questions.  You may obtain a form by clicking here

Spring chorus members also have the exciting opportunity to perform at the Gwinnett Arena for the Gwinnett Gladiator's hockey team on Saturday, January 26th.  Ticket order forms can be found here and are due on Wednesday, January 23rd.  We will be one of 3 schools performing God Bless America.  Lyrics and a music track for home practice can be found on our chorus edmodo site.  If you are new to chorus and need directions on how to join edmodo, please e-mail me for specifics.  We will hold a Wednesday and Friday morning practice to prepare for the performance this coming up Saturday.

For students not in chorus, the Gwinnett Arena is holding Dolvin Night on Saturday, January 26th.  We hope you can come out and support your chorus friends.  Dolvin will have a section blocked off for us to sit together so you can come out and have some fun with your friends!  If enough tickets sell, some of the proceeds will come back to Dolvin.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you,
Megan Endicott
